Year 5 learn about Passover.

On Wednesday, Mrs Werner came to visit Year 5 to teach us all about the festival of Passover. She told us how she celebrates it with her family and the traditions that she follows every year. She brought in her Seder Plate and we were able to taste some of the foods from the plate which symbolise parts of the story of when the Israelites escaped from slavery in Egypt. Mrs Werner had made masks to represent each of the ten plagues that God sent when Pharaoh refused to let the Israelites go.

ASH WEDNESDAY MASS

LAST WEDNESDAY , WE HAD A SPECIAL MASS WHERE WE RECEIVED ASHES ON OUR FOR-HEADS IN THE SHAPE OF A CROSS. THE ASHES ARE MADE FROM PALM LEAVES THAT WERE BURNT LAST YEAR AFTER PALM SUNDAY. WE RECEIVE ASHES TO REMIND US OF THE DUST THAT GOD MADE US FROM. THE CHAPLAINS ( JUNIOR AND SENIOR ) LEAD THE MASS, READING GOSPELS AND BIDDING PRAYERS. ASH WEDNESDAY IS A SYMBOL OF THE START OF LENT, WHICH IS THE BUILD UP TO JESUS’ DEATH. PARENTS CAME TO WATCH AND RECEIVE THE HOLY ASHES.WE ONLY RECEIVE THE ASHES ONCE A YEAR SO NOW WE HAVE TO WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR TO TAKE THEM AGAIN. BY LUKE W
